About Sherie
Horses have been a part of my life from the very beginning. There are photos of me as a baby on top a horse and my earliest memory is falling off a pony! I spent my childhood on stud farms in Western Australia, spending my time caring for our horses, pony club, competing on the showing circuit and later riding in eventing competitions. I certainly spent more time in the stables than I did in the house.
It was after a break from riding to travel the world that I lost my nerve to jump and the precision of dressage appealed to me. It was in this dressage phase, whilst living in Margaret River in the SW of Western Australia, that I started on the road to being a professional therapist. I had a Trekehner that dipped badly one day when I was mounting and I was introduced to Paul Treloar who showed me the advantages of Myofascial Trigger Point Release (MTrP), at the time known as Neuromuscular Manipulation. After Paul worked on my horse, I never had the problem again and I was so impressed that I later spent 3 years learning this treatment. I am only 1 of 3 therapist that are trained by Paul in this unique treatment in the UK. After 15 years of seeing this treatment work, it still amazes me how effective it is!
After moving to the UK I obtained a diploma in Equine Sports Massage with Gilliyan Carter at Equi-Therapy UK. At the time I took my exams, no one in the 10 years of the course running had received 100% in all phases of the exam. I am also a therapist for PhysioPod's Deep Oscillation (R). I am constantly updating my knowledge by having career days with farriers, vets, and attending seminars.
Based in Fleet in Hampshire, I work mainly around the South of England but also further afield on a regular basis, including internationally. I work on horses from all disciplines from retired happy hacks to international competition horses. My motto is ‘every horse deserves to feel good, regardless of its job’.
Since I started treating horses all my clients have come by word of mouth. I work closely with riders, owners, vets, farriers, saddlers, instructors, grooms – anyone who is part of the team to keep the horse at its best. I believe it is always a holistic approach to managing a horse, and it is never one thing that makes a horse a sound and happy animal.
It has been an amazing journey to learn as much as I can about horses and how they work - both physically and mentally - and I am still learning!!!
